This seven-day e-MTB journey connects some of the most beautiful riding areas in the Swiss and Italian Alps.
Starting in Scuol, we cross the Lower Engadin and Val Müstair before reaching Livigno in Italy. From there, the route leads back into Switzerland through the Bernina region and St. Moritz before returning to Scuol.
Along the way, we ride natural Alpine singletrack, cross high mountain landscapes, discover Romansh- and Italian-speaking regions, pass through a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and visit UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Most riding days cover approximately 30–44 km (19–27 mi) with up to 1,600 m (5,250 ft) of elevation gain.
Expect a mixture of:
Walking a short technical section is completely normal. However, participants should be able to ride the majority of the route confidently.
E-MTB assistance makes the climbs significantly more manageable, but good fitness is still required for several consecutive days in the mountains.
We meet at 9:30 am at the hotel in Scuol for introductions, bike setup and an equipment check.
Our first ride explores the Lower Engadin and its historic villages. Gravel roads and easier sections gradually give way to natural Alpine singletrack, giving everyone time to get comfortable with the terrain and allowing the guide to assess the group.
The route is mainly moderate, with several more technical sections along the way. We return to Scuol in the afternoon, where you can relax after your first day in the mountains.
Distance: approx. 40 km / 25 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,500 m / 4,900 ft
Highest point: approx. 1,950 m / 6,398 ft
Terrain: Gravel roads and natural singletrack
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
We begin with a transfer from Scuol to the remote mountain village of S-charl. From here, we ride beneath ancient Swiss stone pines toward Alp Astras and deeper into the mountains beside the Swiss National Park.
The riding becomes more technical as we continue across natural singletrack, including rocky terrain, exposed sections and demanding descents.
Views towards the Ortler mountain range accompany us as the route briefly crosses into Italy before returning to Switzerland. We finish in Müstair, home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Convent of St. John.
Distance: approx. 40 km / 25 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,257 m / 4,125 ft
Elevation loss: approx. 1,814 m / 5,950 ft
Highest point: approx. 2,503 m / 8,212 ft
Terrain: Predominantly natural singletrack
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Today starts in classic Graubünden style with a ride on the yellow PostBus to the Ofen Pass at 2,149 m.
We leave the road and enter another spectacular Alpine landscape, riding through the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Engiadina Val Müstair. The terrain is predominantly moderate natural singletrack mixed with gravel as we make our way towards the Italian border.
After crossing into Italy, views over Lake Livigno open up below us before we descend towards Livigno itself. This lively mountain town is one of Europe’s best-known biking destinations and our base for the next two nights.
Distance: approx. 44 km / 27.5 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,311 m / 4,300 ft
Elevation loss: approx. 1,638 m / 5,375 ft
Highest point: approx. 2,350 m / 7,710 ft
Difficulty: Moderate
Today is deliberately flexible. You can join your guide for another e-MTB ride around Livigno, using the mountain lifts included in the itinerary, or take a full rest day.
If the group decides to ride, the guide chooses trails according to the weather, trail conditions, riding ability and energy level of the participants. Those who prefer to rest can enjoy Livigno, relax at the hotel or spend time at the spa.
The decision is discussed with the guide the evening before.
Optional ride: approx. 40 km / 25 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,000 m / 3,280 ft
Elevation loss: approx. 2,000 m / 6,560 ft
Difficulty: Moderate, with optional technical sections
This is one of the biggest riding days of the week. We start in Livigno and use the Mottolino gondola to reach approximately 2,300 m before entering high-Alpine terrain above the tree line.
Natural singletrack leads us towards spectacular views of the Bernina Range and Piz Bernina, the highest mountain in Graubünden.
The route combines technical trail sections, exposed terrain, climbing and long descents before reaching the St. Moritz region. Along the way, we experience the landscape surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rhaetian Railway in the Albula/Bernina Landscapes.
Distance: approx. 44 km / 27.5 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,600 m / 5,250 ft
Highest point: approx. 2,450 m / 8,038 ft
Terrain: Predominantly natural high-Alpine singletrack
Difficulty: Challenging
Our final riding day explores the mountains above St. Moritz and the Upper Engadin. A mountain lift takes us to approximately 2,280 m. From here, we climb by e-MTB to around 2,749 m, where panoramic views across the Engadin reward the effort.
After stopping at an Alpine hut, we begin a long descent through the valley towards La Punt, Madulain and Zuoz. From Zuoz, the Rhaetian Railway brings us back to Scuol.
Once back in Scuol, access to the local mineral baths and wellness facilities is included—a perfect way to finish the riding week.
Distance: approx. 30 km / 18.6 mi
Elevation gain: approx. 1,000 m / 3,280 ft
Elevation loss: approx. 1,700 m / 5,580 ft
Highest point: approx. 2,749 m / 9,019 ft
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging
Enjoy a final breakfast in Scuol and look back on a week of Alpine trails, border crossings and shared experiences. There is no guided riding scheduled today.
Throughout the journey, you stay in carefully selected 3- and 4-star Alpine hotels, historic inns and boutique properties.
Double or twin rooms are standard. Our focus is not standardized luxury, but comfortable accommodation with local character, good breakfasts and the right environment to recover after a full day in the mountains.
Depending on the property, facilities may include saunas, steam baths, whirlpools, lounges, terraces or gardens.
A single room can be booked for an additional fee, subject to availability.
During your stay in Scuol, access to the local mineral baths and wellness facilities is included. The warm mineral water is an ideal way to relax tired muscles and recover after your days on the bike.
This adventure is designed for riders with strong intermediate to advanced mountain-bike skills who enjoy natural mountain terrain.

What protective equipment do I need?
The following equipment is required:

Elbow pads and a lightweight full-face helmet are recommended but optional.
We generally recommend flat pedals for this tour because they make technical terrain and short hike-a-bike sections easier to manage.

Alpine weather changes quickly.
Even during summer, riders must be prepared for cold temperatures, rain and strong wind at higher elevations.
A waterproof riding jacket and trousers are required.
When is the best time to join?

Manuel was a fantastic off piste skiing guide! There wasn't much snow this season, yet Manuel managed to find hidden pockets of untouched snow with gorgeous views of the Alps. He was very patient with me and taught me how to use telemark skis with skins. Manuel even met me at the rental store to make sure I got the appropriate skis. I thoroughly enjoyed my day skiing with Manuel. It was relaxing and challenging at the same time. I hope to return and book more adventures with Ride and Smile.Posted on Google![]()

We arrived in Davos with no previous experience in skiing and spent some hours over 2 days with Manuel. He is such a wonderful teacher. He was super encouraging and patient. From explaining us the basics to helping us getting independent in the slopes and making the whole experience very enjoyable. He explained everything very clear and was an amazing support. Thank you so much, Manuel! I would 100% recommend. We couldn’t be happier with having chosen Ride & Smile for some lessons. Fernanda was also very kind and made the booking process very easy.Posted on Google![]()

Posted on Google![]()

A fantastic 4 days snowboarding with Massimo as our instructor, mountain guide and new friend for life! As a family of 4 from Boston (2 parents and 2 boys of 12 and 15) we decided to visit Switzerland and learn snowboarding for the first time. We came across Ride and Smile online as a highly rated school. We were partnered with Massimo, an instructor who was super excited to take on the challenge of instructing an entire family of mixed ages, different levels of stamina and ultimately varying levels of natural talent. He greeted us each day with a huge smile and a group hug. We started with the basics, adapting his teaching approach to each of us based on our individual needs. Some of the family advanced quicker, but he really wanted to bring us all along for the ride and was extremely patient. He kept encouraging the slower progressing amongst the group to keep trying, emphasizing that it takes time to master the basics and that once it clicks it will feel amazing. By the fourth day my eldest son was cruising down a red slope like a pro - he will undoubtedly be a snowboarder for life. What made this experience so special was Massimo and his teaching style. His energy was truly infectious - truly positive and welcoming. We made so many memories thanks to Massimo!!Posted on Google![]()

Wonderful Experience: great skiing and fantastic views Ride and Smile is wonderful all around. From the time I expressed interest in booking until after I finished my day skiing when I received photos and videos from my adventure, they were very responsive and attentive. I was able to speak with my guide, Manuel, before booking to make sure my expectations would be met. I'm happy to report that the actual experience exceeded them. Manuel knew how to find the perfect areas for off piste skiing that matched my ability and also offered spectacular views. I hope to come back and book more days with Ride and Smile.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Really excellent! This is the second year in a row that we have used Ride and Smile and we had Manuel as our guide for two days this time around. He was excellent. Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and he struck the right balance between having fun and tuition - he was always encouraging and the improvement in all of us over a short period was clearly evident. We couldn’t recommend him and Ride and Smile highly enough.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Thank you We spent some wonderful days skiing in Davos / Klosters. The Ride & Smile team was very helpful in organizing the ski lessons, and they accommodated all of my requests. Our instructor Lisa was super nice. She made the lessons fun for all age groups and skill levels, including the youngest member of the group who loves speed and bumpy rides. She also gave us lots of useful tips with things to do and where to ski. Thank you!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Everything we hoped for and more! We signed up our two girls (ages 4 and 6) for classes over 4 days. Given their traumatic ski experience the year before, and the fact that they kept saying "I hate skiing, I don't wanna ski", we were seriously concerned whether they would make it even half-way the classes. Well we were so lucky to have Luna as our instructor! She had such a child-friendly approach, she connected with them and was so motivating and supportive! They loved it so much and kept saying they want to go on the big slopes and do races. We are sooo grateful for such an amazing experience!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Her teaching style is clear, patient, and super encouraging. Luna is not only skilled but also incredibly kind and resourceful, always finding the right tips to help me progress quickly. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their skiing while having a great time. Thank you, Luna!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Ski lessons in Davos I booked 4 ski lessons. I must admit that at first I didn't think I would be able to go on the red and blue slopes, because I had never skied before. All my lessons were with teacher Simone, he was really nice to me, he managed to do exercises that suited my learning style, his positivity was really contagious and seeing that he was happy with my achievements made me want to learn more and more.On the last day of my lessons, I was already able to go on the red slopes with some ease. This whole experience made me enjoy skiing and I can't wait for the next time.I would like to thank the entire Ride and Smile team for everything.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()
